Solicitation Warning: HongKong Network Service Company Limited

HongKong Network Service Company Limited

This company sends out emails to domain owners "warning" them that someone is trying to register their domain name with a different extension in Hong Kong or another country in Asia, essentially the same base name with a different extension.

There are hundreds of country level extensions for domain names, so it's normal for your domain to not be registered in all countries TLDs. Of course, you are free to draw your own conclusions, but to our reading, this email simply provides a legal sounding warning that you need to register your domain name with this organization, which in our opinion is not true.

The text of the email looks like:

Subject: YOUR DOMAIN NAME (***********)'SCURRENT SITUATION

Dear Sir or Madam,

Apologize for disturbing, but as a registration center in hong kong‚ we
just got a formal application(from the third party) on May 13, 2009‚ trying
to register some very similar domain names as yours with the keyword
"*************" which may include your company name or trade mark.

We are having its request under examination‚ during which we found you
are the original applicant of this domain name‚ hence we inform you without
hesitation. that’s why you’ve got this notification.

as you are the original owner of the domain name, you still have the prior
rights to register if you think you need to do so‚ we will accetpt(sic) the
request from the third party after a certain period of time protecting these
domain names if you don't lay claim of importance to them.

Your early reply will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Best Regards,

Dear CEO & Principal,

We are a domain name registration and dispute organization in Asia, which mainly
deal with the global companies' domain name registration and internet Intellectual
property right protection. Currently, we have a pretty important issue needing to
confirm with your company.

On May. 19, 2009, we received an application formally. One company
named " ***** Holdings Inc . " wanted to register some names through our body.

Following are the names applied by HKDG company.
Domain Names:
*******.hk
*******.ir
*******.co.ir
*******.com.ph
*******.pk
*******.com.pk
*******.sg
*******.com.sg
*******.mx
Internet Trademark:
*******

Now we are handling with the registration of these names and find that the keyword
of these domain names and internet trademark is identical with your company's.
So we have to confirm with you at two points:
1. If your company consign **** company to register these domain names and internet
trademark, we will send application form to them and help them finish the registration
at once.
2. If your company have nothing to do with **** company, they maybe have other
purposes to register these domain names and internet trademark.

In order to deal with this issue better, please contact us by email or telephone ASAP.

Waiting for your reply ASAP.

Best regards,

Dear Sir/Madam: 2009-4-29

We are a domain name registration service company in Asia,

Last week we received a formal application submited by Mr.Mike Zhang,
Which wanted to use the keyword "*********************" to register
the Internet Brand and with suffix such as .cn /.com.cn /.net.cn/.hk/
.asia/ domain names.

After our initial examination, we found that these domain names to be
applied for registration are same as your domain name and trademark.
We aren’t sure whether you have any relation with this company. Because
these domain names would produce possible dispute, now we have hold
down this registration, but if we do not get your company’s an reply in
the next 5 working days, we will approve his application

In order to handle this issue better, Please contact us by Fax ,
