Hosting: How do I password protect a directory?

Password protecting a directory/site

You can require your user to provide a username and password in order to view a directory (or your entire site). For those of you used to Apache server configuration, this is similar to adding password protection using a .htaccess file.

Sending the request

Before sending in the request, please make sure your domain is using our hosting services.

While R4L intends to add this to the domain management interface, for the time being, our support team will handle setting this up for you.

To Password protect a directory on your site, please write to support@R4L.com. You will need to specify the following:

  • The domain name.
  • The name of the directory to protect. Specify "/" if you want to protect the entire web site.
  • The list of usernames and passwords for access.
  • Confirmation of the last 4 digits of your R4L account password.
