FAQ: What Is URL Forwarding and Cloaking?

What Is URL Forwarding and Cloaking?

URL (Universal Resource Locator) Forwarding allows you to forward your domain name to an existing URL. In simpler terms, a URL location on the Internet, i.e. a web site.

If you have a web site that you're already using, something like http://my_isp.com/home/myaccount/index.html, you can use the URL forwarding service to forward your domain directly to this site. Your visitors won't have to type in that long name anymore to reach your web site.

Cloaking is a technique that we use to keep your domain name in the location bar (the place where you type in the name of a web site) so when your visitor is forwarded, his browser will continue to show the name of your domain and not the name of the location being forwarded to.

For those web developers out there, Cloaking is accomplised using a frame, so if you're using this feature, don't program something that will target the "_top" frame.
