When a domain name registration comes up for renewal, the owner of the domain name has 30-40 days to renew the domain name. Following the expiration date, most registrars will continue to hold the name as registered for a grace period of 30-40 days. If there is still no response after the grace period, the domain is dropped by the registrar and then held for a 30 day registry imposed redemption period. A domain will be completely released and available as a new regsitration approximately 80 days following its expiry date.
