FAQ: What are the different contact types, and what do they mean?

The Four Contact Positions

The most important thing about contacts for your domain(s) is to keep them updated. If your email address changes, you must log into your account and update the email address we have on file for you.

Organizational Contact

The Organizational contact is the person/organization that is legally recognized as the owner of the domain name. Changing this contact equates to a change in ownership of the domain.

Administrative Contact

The Admin contact is the primary contact position used for commincation and security for your domain. System emails sent to this emailaddress are:

  • The Lost Password function (if enabled) will send by email the account username and account password to only this contact's email.
  • Transfer confirmation requests will only be sent to the admin email contact address.
  • Renewal reminders will be sent to the admin contact and billing contact address.

Billing Contact

The billing contact is used more for billing/renewal issues. System emails sent to this emailaddress are:

  • Renewal reminders will be sent to the admin contact and billing contact address.
  • Receipts for purchases (registrations, renewals & other services) will be sent to the billing contact address.

Technical Contact

The tech contact address is to provide information to the registrat, i.e. a link to who the registration provider, web host, or other te chnical person responsbile for the domain is. No system emails are sent to this address.
